The Boeber Runners are grateful to been able to serve our guests in Manenberg Alghamdullielah.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we were inundated with questions around safety concerns about going into Manenberg. With assurance given by the organisation Brothers 4 Life and the presence of the City Police, #TheCrew were comfortable to go ahead with this first time visit to the area. The experience was overwhelming and eye opening to say the least.
Guests were lined up from 7pm in anticipation of our arrival for 9:30pm. The fact that our guests were willing to brave the cold windy conditions for something warm to eat speaks volumes about their lack of basic diet provision. It has been encouraging to see the increase in youth contingent getting involved in the initiative, especially at this particular event.
Our guests were served with a warm punnet of Breyani prepared by the Brothers form the Husami Masjid in Cravenby. They also receive a sandwich, and fruit. The children received a party packs, the ladies received sanitary towel and condom hampers, and of course, the obligatory cup of Boeber.
Unfortunately, we did not have enough clothing to offer our guest. We are making an urgent appeal to the Lace Up For Change family to please dig deep and donate your unused clothing generously. As we are entering the colder months soon, it’s a perfect opportunity to “Autum Clean” your wardrobes. For donation collection or dropoff, please feel free to contact Magmoeda Drama who will gladly assist.
Our Next Boeber Run is scheduled for Saturday 17 March 2018, details of which will be published shortly.
