Empowering the vulnerable

As promised earlier this year, #TheCrew has been hard at work creating self empowerment opportunities for the vulnerable of our communities. We are pleased to announce a collaboration with our friends at the IHata Shelter for Abused Women and Children, and A Power Cup to create employment & skills opportunities for residents at IHata.

For those who are not aware, the Ihata Shelter is on the Cape Flats of Cape Town. They mainly serve the local disadvantaged female community, where women are often poor, uneducated, and sometimes illiterate.

Since inception in February 2006, the Shelter has successfully assisted, clothed, counselled, empowered and sheltered more than a thousand residents, and counselled countless outside clients seeking assistance with domestic abuse/violence situations.

Our new Partners, A Power Cup, are a husband and wife team who run a Nespresso coffee truck and are geared at serving big crowds. The industrial machine they have on board is able to make +2000 cups a day at the speed of 2 cups in 40 seconds. Speed of service ensures that long queues for a good cup of coffee is now a thing of the past.
They have their own onboard power (5Kva) as well as solar which enables us to trade from almost any location without the need for an electricity supply. In our bid to become a "green" operation we encourage the recycling of all used materials by providing recycle bins at our events.

A Power Cup will be training and provide employment to clients of IHata shelter starting this weekend; Saturday 18 August 2018. Should you find yourself at the Cross Country Championships at CPUT's Bellville Campus or at Metropolitan John Korasie 30km Road Race on Sunday 19 August 2018, be sure to pop by for a hot cuppa at the A Power Cup coffee truck for:
* Free mobile device charging stations
* Free limited WiFi
* Nespresso coffee
* Hot chocolate
* Tea
* Water
* Carbonated beverages
* Koeksister
* Muffins
* Sweet treats (chips, fudge, lollipops, biltong)
* Steak rolls
* Boerewors rolls
* Chicken rolls
* Savoury snacks (samoosas, pies etc)

Your support in this venture will empower us to expand on our self empowerment projects. You can make a difference to the lives of those most vulnerable!
