The August edition of the Boeber Run was held on Saturday 19th Aug 2017 in the Athlone and Pooke Road, Rylands Areas.

It was sad to see that in Athlone the City police had evacuated many of our guests and there were only about 20 people to serve. From the Post Office in Athlone, we proceeded to Pooke Road where we were overwhelmed by the greeting recceived from our guests. Councillor Aslam Cassiem, ward councillor for the area joined us and was thoroughly impressed with the work done by The Crew and our Supporters. He has spoken about a need to offer more self-sustaining projects to help uplift these communities.

Cllr Aslam Cassiem is trying to get a Youth Soccer Team started in the Pooke Road Community and is in need of support – he will need coaching & kit assistance / sponsorship.

The Crew was also honoured to be part of little Bridget’s 13th Birthday Celebration as we all broke out in song to make this little girl’s day that much more special.

Once again, the support received has been so overwhelming that we were able to include a third distribution point – Flamingo Crescent in Landsdowne. Again, the welcome received from our guests was overwhelming with warm hugs and welcome backs received.

Having fed over 600 people on the night highlighted the need to be proactively involved in offering our guests self-sustaining opportunities. The Crew is currently investigating options that we can implement in these areas to offer our guests Community Gardens, school/educational projects and access to sporting facilities to keep the youth off the streets. Watch this space for details.
