Sometimes miracles are just people with kind hearts

– Unknown

A feeling of complete awe at how a group of ordinary people are getting together to try and make our corner of the world a better place.

The event got started at 20:30 at the Voice of The Cape Offices in Salt River. Boeber Runners proceeded down Voortrekker Road towards 6th Avenue in Kensington, under the watchful eyes of Melomed, CoCT Law Enforcement & Kensington SAPS, along with the Maitland and Kensington Neighborhood Watch teams keeping us safe on the road. On arrival, our guests greeted us with cheers and excitement as the distributions were about to begin.

As usual, guests received a warm cup of Boeber, a punnet of Breyani, and a parcel of fruit and sandwiches, as well as clothes. Alghamdullilah, with the generosity of our LU4C Family, we were also able to give the children a packet of chips and a tube of toothpaste.

We met Andrew, a resident of the informal settlement there. Andrew, 28 years ago was a qualified Architect practicing in Melbourne Australia after a stint in Canada.

Diagnosed with Hepatitis B, he underwent a long course of treatment and eventually returned to South Africa. Referring to the community as HIS PEOPLE, he spoke of love and respect for all of humanity and expressed gratitude and admiration to the LU4C crew for all that they are doing.

Stories like these that prove without a doubt that residents of the streets, are there due to various unfortunate circumstances and life events- not, as many perceive them to be lazy. Over the Boeber Runs, we have heard of many such cases, which has become a driving force behind our commitment to this cause.

After serving our guests in 6th Avenue, we proceeded to do the same in Koekie Town and finished off in Royal Road, Maitland.

We would like to thank you, our donors and volunteers for your support. Without you these projects are not simply not possible. The year ahead promises to be an exciting one filled with many projects to help make a difference in the lives of those most vulnerable. We look forward to your continued support.
