Alhamdulillah we are truly blessed to be able to go out and spread a little joy in the lives of our guests.

The Vrygrond Boeber Run has been our largest undertaking to date which was overwhelming on so many levels. The AMAZING support from the Boeber Run Family who all rallied to the aid of our guests; donations of Boeber, sandwiches, fruit, sanitary towels, party / gift packets and donuts came in from all over, to the extent that we still collected donations on our way to Surfers Corner for the start of the Boeber Run.

Our guests were phenomenal in creating order out of the chaos of having 1500 people all vying for a care package. They took charge in separating our guests whereby woman and children were grouped together and men were in a separate group…. Sending the woman and children first to receive their care packages followed by the men. At no point during the evening were things unruly, in fact, the noise levels were that of laughter and gest as everyone was having a great time.

The evening shed further light on the plight on the homeless and those living in informal settlements. It is easy to make judgement and say that they are just lazy living that way but getting to know our guests proved different. For many, they DO NOT HAVE a choice in the matter. The employment market is at an all-time low.  Municipal Service delivery to areas like Vrygrond, that houses approximately 40 000 people, are virtually non-existent. Despite the challenges they face daily, the spirit of Ubuntu within these camps is heart-warming. Its extraordinary to observe that the residents of Vrygrond are so charitable with the little that they have. They survive on much less than what we have but are still willing to share their provisions with their neighbours.

#TheCrew at Lace Up For Change and The Boeber Run are investigating options to assist with equipping our guests to become more self-sufficient which will make them less reliant on “handouts”. If any of our Boeber Run Family can assist with helping to set up Community Gardens so that these communities can create their own soup kitchens,  please reach out to us at

Another project we are looking at getting involved with is the conversion of old shipping containers into classrooms.  These classrooms would be utilised to offer extra school tuition by teachers willing to tutor children living in communities such as Vrygrond.  These extra classes would empower these children to attain better results at school and in turn give them the edge needed to provide for their families one day In’Sha Allah Ameen.

I would also like to take this opportunity to give a SPECIAL THANKS to #TheCrew. This remarkable group of people have been working tirelessly in the background to make our events the successes they have been. Their dedication to the cause and dream has been undeniably relentless running to the aid of those most vulnerable. I know I speak on behalf of each and every one of our guests when I say that your efforts have not gone unnoticed and appreciated on so many levels.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” – Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604

May you all receive the ultimate reward for your sacrifices and donations In’Sha Allah and we make duah that this organization continues to grow from strength to strength.
