Westley Cockrell is a Cape Town based Comedian.
An Afrikaans boy from George, Westley makes light of the silly things he had to go through in this small Western Cape Town.
With a no-nonsense attitude to boot, his energetic performances don’t hold him back from sharing his opinions on love, loneliness and unrepentant friendship with careful precision and unbridled shame.
Westley won Joke Slam 2015 and Muizenberg Comedy Challenge 2014 respectively. He is a regular at Cape Town Comedy and Parkers Comedy Club. He has performed with some of S.A’s best including: Rob van Vuuren, Nik Rabinowitz and Conrad Koch.
Justin Ray a Stand Up Comedian born and raised in a small country village (Greyton) moved to Mitchell’s Plain after finishing High School and is currently making his rounds on the local Cape Town Comedy Scene the farm boy jokes about his Country characteristics, relationship with woman and observation about his race and ethnicity, inspired by Comedians like Richard Pryor, Louis CK, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock. Justin Ray is a regular on the Cape Town Comedy Scene. Justin Ray’s sense of humor has been described as “crazy, weird and wonderful.
Capetonian one-liner comedian, Yaaseen Barnes, is a fresh face on the local comedy scene and arguably a master of his craft in this genre. First making a splash as the winner of the Joker’s Comedy Championship in 2013, Barnes was quickly noticed and went on to perform at major festivals such as Rocking the Daisies and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival in the same year. This helped him showcase his talents nationwide, subsequently building him a loyal and dedicated fan base – both at theatres and clubs throughout the country, as well as online.

2014 saw Barnes taking the coveted title of GoodHope FM’s Laugh Master, and (unsurprisingly) he was also nominated for the Comic’s Choice Savannah Newcomer of the Year; but perhaps his best-known performance was on Comedy Central, alongside SA favourites like Casper de Vries and Deep Fried Man, in “Comedy Central Presents Divine”. This hilarious battle, of some of the top comedians in the industry, was hosted by the prestigious Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg – and marked Barnes’ standup television debut.
Kenwyn Davids hails from Mitchells Plain and has grown and progressed rapidly since starting his journey. He has been blowing audiences away ever since arriving. Kenwyn Davids is a hard working comic, always looking for ways to improve his comedy. He has won the Chilli Bar Open Mic competition thrice, consecutively, and was also a finalist in the Chilli Bar Grand Comedy Challenge.
Within 6 months of performing, he shared the stage with some of SA’s top up and coming acts at the Graca Comedy Showdown. He has shared the stage with South African comedy heavy-weights, such as; Riaad Moosa, Nik Rabinowitz, Kurt Schoonraad, Deep-fried Man, Stuart Taylor, Kagiso Lediga, and some of Cape Town’s heavy-weight comics as well. Not to mention festivals such as, Rocking the River, and Synergy Live!
He is the producer of Mitchells Plains first and only comedy club, and also produces outside of the comedy club, which attracts hundreds of people.
He’s here and he is going places.

Kagiso, or KG as he is affectionately known is the son of a Sangoma and a nurse. He is well and truly on his way to becoming a true comedy heavyweight. KG takes his audiences on a unique comedy journey with a glimpse into the “behind the scenes” practices of a Sangoma and what it’s like having one that you call “dad” , a nurse for a mom and why he was never able to take a day off sick from school. His take on what is regarded as an “unknown” is yet another first for South African comedy. In a very short period of time KG has moved from being an open-mic comedian to being a featured act in club, theatre and corporate comedy. He made his big stage performance at the Joburg Arts Alive Festival in the Comedy Nine-Nine showcase, working alongside Rob Van Vuuren, Mark Palmer, NdumisoLindi and Kurt Schoonraad and earning rave reviews from the audience members and organizers alike. Since then he has shared the big stage with more of the crème de la crème of South African comedy at the Fugard Theatre Christmas Festival of Laughter, Vodacom Comedy Festival 2012, Comedy Central Presents, The inagural Keeping You In Stitches with RiaadMoosa, Black Only Comedy Show and the outdoor music Festivals in the Western Cape and most recently he was the opening act for David Kau’s Here to make you Laugh in Cape Town. While many considered it too early to have a one person show, KG 2013’s nominee for the best new comer award at the South African Comics Choice awards went ahead and ran his first solo show, HEAVY at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. A week’s worth of packed houses resulted in standing ovations and a four star review in the media.
He is fast becoming one of the top new acts to take to the stage in South Africa. Mark Palmer and Kurt Schoonraad both believe that even though he’s a big guy already, he’s going to be huge one day.
Spread the love
